Happy New Year!!

Welcome to Mindful Moves for a Happy New Year! Over the next sixteen days, you will learn sixteen simple yet powerful techniques for making 2016 a year of presence and joy. These lessons are based on the latest research in the fields of positive psychology, mindfulness, and the science of happiness.

Welcome and Orientation Video

A new lesson will be made available to you every 24 hours (based on when you signed up for the course). You will receive an email reminding you when each lesson is available.

Each lesson has a short video, inspiring words from me, and your daily mindful moves — one or more simple practices that, if you continue with them during the year, will help you cultivate mindfulness and, according to the research, also make you happier.

A series of experiments

I always tell participants in my classes to think of mindfulness as a series of experiments — some of these practices will work for you, and some won’t. Some of them might feel awkward or forced or cliched at first.

All I ask is that you TRY them. At least once. And if the practice isn’t a fit for you, then don’t do it! There are lots of ways to be mindful and happy, just as there are lots of different ways to eat healthily. Each of the sixteen lessons in this course has, at its foundation, the practice of mindfulness — compassionate, nonjudgmental awareness of the present moment. The exercises you will try each day are perhaps best thought of as doorways that all lead into the same room. Each exercise will help you cultivate presence, gratitude, and joy. After sixteen days, you will have all sorts of delicious meals and flavors to pick from to design your own mindful living menu!

Track your progress

Each lesson has a short checklist to mark off the tasks you have completed. Once you’ve checked all the items for a lesson, you’ll see a green checkmark next to that Mindful Move on the course menu on the left side of the screen. That way, you’ll be able to easily see which lessons you’ve completed.

Each day, jot down a few notes about the practice, consider how you could implement it in your life, and evaluate whether it’s a good fit for your lifestyle and your personality.
